RESPONSIBLE BATTERY COALITION & JOHNSON CONTROLS

SUSTAINABILITY

Launched in 2017 with support from Johnson Controls, the Responsible Battery Coalition is a coalition of companies, academics and NGOs committed to the responsible management of the batteries and its life-cycle to not cause harm to people or the environment, and is reused where possible and ultimately recycled.

ACTIVATION

RBC partnered with the Rock the Green Sustainability Festival as a way to promote their sustainability mission of keeping batteries out of landfills. Tying in audience participation with their mission, a two-day battery recycling collection was hosted and participants received a $25 discount to Rock the Green Sustainability Festival.

In addition, RBC was the Presenting sponsor of the Pedal Power Stage, powered by local cycling teams.

Pat Hayes, executive director of the Responsible Battery Coalition, said, “Every battery needs to be responsibly managed, and that’s why we exist. While current vehicle batteries have a 99% recycling rate, our goal is 100%. Rock the Green’s mission is to promote zero waste, and that’s what we want to see also. Our work is to accelerate solutions to ensure all batteries are responsibly managed.”

RBC is a close partner with 2013 CNN Hero of the Year, environmentalist and author Chad Pregracke, Founder of the nonprofit Living Lands and Waters, joined the battery collection and spoke at the Rock the Green Sustainability Festival.
